Description
2” pot. This primary hybrid should bloom with sprays of fragrant red-spotted flowers. C sanguineum has white-to-cream all-over spotted flowers and C pileatum has white flowers with a solid red or yellow lip and variable spotting. Catasetum is a medium-sized South American genus that goes dormant in winter and blooms from new growth in summer or fall. Needs a dry winter rest while dormant. Start water again once new growths start and roots have formed. Plants may be male, female, or hermaphrodite, bearing both types of flowers, possibly at different times. Whether the flowers are male or female may depend on cultural conditions. This is a fun and fairly easy genus to grow. Mid-size seedlings have started this year’s new growth.
